Heavenly Days Cottage, overlooking Somes Sound, was featured on 'Around the World in 80 Homes' on The Fine Living Channel in October, 2004. It was built in 1895 and completely renovated in 1995 with special attention to restoring all its original details, including woodwork, hardwood floors, turn of the century slate sink, etc. This Victorian home still carries a flavor of early Maine while offering comfort and beautiful views of Somes Sound. For example, the original wrap porch w/hot tub maximizes the view. The cottage is decorated with beautiful yet durable antiques. Comfortable and casual, it's like taking a step back in time to yesteryear in coastal down east Maine! On the first floor, you'll find the kitchen with various collections of antique kitchenware, an antique Hoosier, butcher-block counter top as well as all the modern comforts of home. The dining room provides seating for 6-8 and the living room offers great views of the Sound and access to the covered wrap-around porch. The second floor offers 3 bedrooms with 1 king and 2 double beds. The deck off the master bedroom boasts panoramic views of Somes Sound and the surrounding mountains
Sit in the hot tub on the covered porch and watch the sailboats and lobster boats float by. You may even see lobstermen hauling their traps right in front of the cottage while you drink your morning coffee.
Heavenly Days Cottage is tucked at the end of a private road with only 3 other cottages in sight. With sloping lawn to the water's edge, the cottage is situated approximately 250ft from the shore of beautiful Somes Sound, the only natural fjord on the east coast. Extensive granite stonework, including a patio, rock walls, granite steps and pathways, complement the dramatic changes in landscape from mountain to ocean. A fire pit (firewood provided) near the shore is just one more way to enjoy all this cottage has to offer. Located on the 'quiet side' of Mount Desert Island, the cottage is still within minutes of all that the island has to offer. Convenient to Echo Lake and many hiking/climbing trails of Acadia National Park.
Guests have full access to Somes Sound and the shore in front of Heavenly Days Cottage. The pier (elevated walkway) is currently blocked and not available to guests, as required by our insurance company for safety reasons, because it does not have a ramp or float attached.
Swimming is possible buut the water is cold and the shoreline very rocky.
