Beautiful Historic Home - Rare Family Togetherness Opportunity
There can be no better way to experience a new scenic location than with family! The opportunity to do that, enjoy, and be a part of morning and evening discussions is just not there with a large family in multiple hotel rooms. Compare to that a stay at Willowbrook, right across from scenic Somes Sound. You can watch from the porch as others take pictures of the view. The home is large and charming, has so much history, unique details and qualities that make exploration irresistible. Our daughter had tears in her eyes upon entering the kitchen due to similarities to my Mom's home. Discussions about the home itself were so frequent and made more interesting by the numerous on site publications and books regarding the area and its history. Most of our family of twelve were 18 or older, all enjoyed not only the glimpse of life in the past, but actually living in such a home made it natural to imagine and of course talk about earlier life. Be sure that Willowbrook was an upscale residence from early times and provides a flavor of such a life. In a time frame when many did not have electricity or indoor plumbing, residents here had indoor plumbing. The 1920s era showers had multiple shower heads, which even now are a rarity. The shower controls alone were very advanced for the time and rival or exceed the contemporary in the ability of infinite control of both volume and temperature. Just imagine when these were new and the leading edge of innovation. Be aware that operation of the showers is not at first intuitive, since these controls are early prototypes from which others evolved. Did I mention FOUR bathrooms? Having seven ladies in our group made this so so nice. It is important to note that there was never a shortage of hot water. So. The home itself is a worthwhile experience, but this is on Mount Desert Island. It is just so trouble free to make excursions to the various Acadia Park sites, places to enjoy lobster, outdoor activities, and the bustle of Bar Harbor, with possible intermissions to return "home" to Willowbrook. If you seek modern cookie cutter perfection, skip Willowbrook. Our vacation was much more fulfilling because of our stay here.

Beautiful property with beautiful view and interesting History.
This property was well maintained, clean and had very interesting information about it's history in the community and the generations of family who lived there. We enjoyed the antiques, beautiful view, convience of location, information of the area provided, and the size of the house so that family was not on top of each other. Kitchen supplies were good, and plenty of towels were provided. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the house to anyone. Brenda H - (Aug 2017)

Fantastic vacation!
Fabulous vacation! House was perfect for our big group and would certainly recommend to friends and family. Owner was very nice and extremely helpful with suggestions and recommendations during our stay. The house had plenty of space to lounge and everyone had a bed. Beds were very comfortable. The back yard was a great place for the kids' evening games of soccer or football. The inlet is beautiful and between kayaks and a paddle board we were able to explore the inlet and venture beyond seeing lots of seals and porpoises. The Island shuttle that stopped right outside the house was fantastic and made traveling to all the spots so much more convenient. Finding parking can be tough, so I absolutely recommend taking the shuttle and having one less worry. Lots and lots of hiking available for climbers of all levels and all within a short distance of the house. We loved the sand beach especially after hiking Beehive Mountain. Carolyn C - (Jul 2017)

Beautiful, spacious, and relaxing!
My husband and I had a wonderful 2-week stay at Willowbrook to celebrate our anniversary! The historic home is very well maintained, and Diana was very friendly and gracious, as well as being a tremendous help and guide to the area. I couldn't help but wonder about all the generations who had walked on the old wooden floors before us. Every day, I seemed to discover something new in the house. It is full of antiques, paintings, books, and history. The furniture is remarkably comfortable, and the linens and towels smelled so fresh and clean!
Willowbrook is in an ideal location, with beauty all around. We especially enjoyed sitting on the side porch for breakfast, breathing in the thrill of being there. We loved the views from every room of the house, as well as the extremely spacious yard. There is an excellent art gallery just a few steps away. We also greatly enjoyed our side trips to Bar Harbor, Asticou Gardens, Southwest Harbor, and many other places. There is so much to see and do!
Of all the places in the whole country (or even out of the country) that we could've gone, we are extremely pleased that we chose Willowbrook. Our anniversary dinner at the Reading Room in the Bar Harbor Inn was marvelous, with a spectacular view of Frenchman's Bay (as well as a stunning sunset that night)! Everyone was so friendly there, as well as everywhere we went. We will treasure our happy anniversary memories at Willowbrook for the rest of our lives! Peggy from Ohio - (Jul 2017)
